Easterseals 5th Annual Walk Promotes Community Wellness While Raising Funds

Silver Spring, MD — Over 500 participants descended on National Harbor recently to raise more than $95,000 for Easterseals DC MD VA’s critical, life-changing disability and community services for children, adults, and military families.

This year marked the fifth annual occurrence of Walk With Me, a signature Easterseals event. “That’s five years of fun, wellness, and most importantly, enabling Easterseals to help our neighbors overcome barriers on the road to well-being,” said Easterseals DC MD VA President and CEO Jon Horowitch as he welcomed walkers on the morning of October 24.

Walk With Me also featured a health fair, offering free flu shots and health screenings — typifying Easterseals’ holistic approach to helping people achieve well-being. Families also enjoyed activities from the Easterseals Weekend Respite program, which cares for children with disabilities and those from military families, providing parents with a welcome break.

Community partners — including presenting sponsors Andrews Federal Credit Union and Kaiser Permanente — joined in support through generous corporate giving, as well as contributing store discounts, raffle prizes, and in-kind donations to the event’s health fair activities.

All funds raised directly benefit DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia residents turning to Easterseals for early childhood education, medical adult daycare, veteran employment services, and military family mental health.
