Elizabeth Dole Act addresses challenges facing veterans

The Elizabeth Dole Act, named in honor of our Honorary Board member, establishes the Veteran-Directed Care Program, which allows veterans to purchase services directly from alternative providers to nursing home care. Home care is cited in the Act, but Adult Day Services (like ours at Easterseals) are not.

Adult Day Services (ADS) are underutilized but bring numerous benefits and are the most affordable form of care available to the VA and veterans. Veterans benefit from the structure, health and wellness services, safe transportation, and socialization that comes with ADS. ADS also gives their families a much-needed break, knowing their loved one is cared for properly.

Easterseals is working with Members of Congress and the Veterans Administration to have this valuable service included as an option for veterans in the Elizabeth Dole Act.
