Providing Medical, Social, and Emotional Support

When Lorea and Kyle’s son Cook was less than a month old, they received his diagnosis of a rare syndrome that causes him to stop breathing while he sleeps. As a result, Cook uses a ventilator that requires constant monitoring to ensure it continues breathing for him. While juggling demanding jobs, Lorea and Kyle could not find an inclusive daycare that could both accommodate Cook’s complex medical needs and provide an enriching environment for their smart and social child.

Once the family enrolled, Easterseals staff underwent additional training to ensure Cook had everything he needed and his parents were comfortable. 

That’s when DC Child Care Connections directed the family to Easterseals Child Development Center. The center director and assistant director reassured the family that our staff would be able to provide the medical, social, and emotional support that Cook needed. Once the family enrolled, Easterseals staff underwent additional training to ensure Cook had everything he needed and Lorea and Kyle were comfortable.  

Cook has made tremendous progress at our center and recently graduated from speech therapy. Lorea loves picking up Cook (and his younger brother) as everyone stops them on their way out to say goodbye. On the impact Easterseals has had for Cook and his family, Kyle says, “Easterseals has allowed us to continue living our lives.”
